Dear Blog,
One of my resolutions for this year was to create a blog to talk about yarn crafts. It took me almost three months to find the courage to do it. I promised myself that if I started writing a blog, I would write every day. I thought I could keep it up if I only wrote a couple of lines a day. But, after only one post, I already fell behind.
How come that the hardest promises to keep are the ones to yourself? And, resolutions are even worse. Here are just a few examples of the hundred failed New Year’s resolutions I have made over the years:
To exercise more (Yeah right).
To ride my bike more often (Not happening).
To clean the clutter in my house (Maybe).
To stop buying yarn (This one I knew it was impossible).
So, I refuse to give up this time, hence here is my second post. It is about the resolution I made to machine knit lap blankets to donate to a hospice in town. I knitted three so far, but I didn’t anticipate the problem of curling edges. Yes, you heard me, the edges and ends of each blanket curl like there’s no tomorrow. Why did I think that this wouldn’t happen when using a knitting machine instead of regular knitting needles is beyond me. I already press steamed them, and even though, they look better they still curl!
So an idea occurred to me, why not make a simple single crochet edge along the edges (Duh!). The blankets are not huge, but they aren’t small either. I procrastinated for a long time, but finally, this weekend, I put a crochet trim on all of them. YAY! I am so proud of myself. And of course, I couldn’t have done it without the youngest of my three cats, Chloe, who is my QC supervisor :). Thank you, Chloe!
